Maamba Energy Hands Over New Immigration Office to Support Local Services and Energy Projects
Maamba Energy Commissions Immigration Office in Maamba, Zambia, to Boost Service Delivery and Energy Sector Growth
Maamba Energy has officially handed over a newly constructed immigration office in Maamba to the Department of Immigration, a move expected to significantly improve public service delivery and support the continued growth of Zambia’s energy sector.
The new facility is designed to reduce travel distances, shorten processing times, and streamline immigration procedures for residents of Maamba and surrounding communities.
It will also provide critical support to employees and international experts working on Maamba Energy’s ongoing operations, the 300MW Phase II expansion project, and the planned 100MW solar power plant.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, said the development underscores the government’s commitment to decentralising public services while creating a secure and business-friendly environment.
“This facility forms part of our wider programme to modernise immigration services. By bringing services closer to communities and key industries, we are supporting investment, skills transfer, and sustainable national development,” Hon. Mwiimbu said.
Maamba Energy Chief Executive Officer, Lt. Col. Cyrus Minwalla (Retd), highlighted the importance of on-site immigration services in facilitating cooperation with international partners.
He noted that the presence of the office would allow employees and technical experts to focus on efficient project delivery, strengthening Zambia’s energy security, and advancing cleaner energy technologies.
Director General of Immigration, Dr Japhet M. Lishomwa, described the new office as a practical step toward improved migration management, enhanced security, and more efficient service delivery, with positive implications for investment, trade, and tourism.
The commissioning of the facility reflects a strong public-private partnership, with Maamba Energy fully funding its construction and refurbishment.
The establishment of local immigration services is expected to accelerate project implementation and reinforce Maamba’s role as a growing hub for energy investment and international collaboration.
